Grade 5 is currently reading 'Village Life in India' by Steve Brace for their Topic lesson.
This book introduce our Grade 5 children to understand what is it like to live in an Indian village, what happens in a typical day in Chembakolli? How do people farm in the Nilgiri Hills? And what changes are taking place in part of India.
India is located in the continent of Asia. Its landscape includes many different types of scenery such as mountains, deserts, tropical beaches and plains. India is a very large country. It has a land area 13 times bigger than Britain. India has the second largest population in the world: nearly 900 million people.
On Monday, Grade 5 commenced their celebration of 'Indian Week' with a full diary of events.
Firstly they wore Indian traditional dress which each child had researched and understood the different types of clothing. They then had a little show of their costumes.
Tuesday, saw the further exploration of 'Indian Culture'. We welcomed a special guest, Mr. Kulbhushan Tyagi. He talked to the children about Indian culture, religion, food, education etc.
On Wednesday we welcomed another special guest, Mr. Prakash Mishra, whose topic areas ere the India system of government, living in a Indian village and who are the Adivasi people?
Finally on Friday the class finished this fascinating week with an Indian lunch at Garam Masala Restaurant. Very tasty!
The children thoroughly enjoyed the week and we would like to thank our special guests for their time and insights.
