ISTCI Vs Surfside Swim Meet 2016
The aim of the event was for us was to expose the ISTCI children to competitive elements of Swimming and to also see how they compared to children who swim regularly for a club.
The purpose for Surfside was for their swimmers to be given some competition and try to improve on their times before many of them head to national events in 2017.
International School Swimming Curriculum
Since the beginning of the 2016/017 academic year our children have been working very hard and have all made progress in Swimming. Some only small such as getting in and out of the water unassisted and others being able to swim 3 lengths of the pool maintaining their speed throughout.

The Main Event!
The event started a little behind schedule much to Mr Bell’s frustration as he usually likes things to run on time!!
The event was split up into age categories 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13 + with the following events; 2 length freestyle, 2 length backstroke, 2 length breast stroke & 2 length butterfly.
Children from each age category competed in each event with overall winners being judged based on their finishing time.
Thank you to all the volunteers who timed the children on the day. Next time you will be sure to be positioned in a shaded the whole time 😉
The events certainly showed the strengths of the Surfside children but also showed how far the ISTCI children had come. There were so many close races with ISTCI children close to leading after the 2 length mark. The final length is where we struggled and has clearly shown us what we need to work on for the next event.
And…we also had some winners! Gabby Bruton in the freestyle (40.46) & backstroke (46.47) for her and Selin Kilic in the backstroke (1.02.40) for their age category’s managed to each place first and win well deserved medals.
Special mentions to those all those from ISTCI who competed tremendously but did not place first and win a medal…James Nesbitt, Brianna Burton, Pavla Lalakova, Ariah Mishra, Takeem Williams, Grace Reaston-Brown, Jade Grandshire (Competing for Surfside), Hayden Williams, Julien Lightbourne and Chloe Turner.
Well done, we are all very proud of you. The next event we certainly plan to take more of the medals home!
