The Grade 4 class have been learning about persuasive writing as part of a non-fiction unit of work in English lessons.
On Friday morning, the class ended the unit with each child presenting a project which they have been working on for the past two weeks.
Their task was to select and research an endangered animal and then to put together a presentation, supported with a poster or powerpoint, to persuade us to do whatever we can to help preserve the species.
Without exception, the presentations were amazing and a huge amount of effort had been put into them.
The children presented their information clearly and were able to field questions from the floor. All were very persuasive!
The common theme in these presentations were: climate change and deforestation and the children identified ways that we can reduce our impact on these areas and help to save our environment as well as to prevent the extinction of some remarkable species.
Well done Grade 4!

Dear H. E. Dr. Freeman,
I am writing to you to inform you of the growing amount of litter in our gorgeous T.C.I.. It is becoming a very big problem that we need to address as soon as possible. I would love to share my opinions on this situation with you. I believe that I have found what bothers people the most: plastic bags!
It is crucial to our society to keep the tourist industry up and running, but I assure you that no one will come on vacation here if they know that we are this polluted. Do you not agree? I would think so!
We need to act fast; our marine life is being destroyed before our eyes, our streets covered in trash. What’s next? Tourists tell the world and never return? However, we can do little things like ban plastic bags, give a customer a discount if they bring their own reusable mug to the coffee shop, never use straws for example. Any of these will take us closer back to our pristine, beautiful seas.
I understand that people use plastic bags because they are cheap, but while we all sit back, relax and save money, plastic bags are causing immense damage throughout the T.C.I.! We should save the Islands by simply banning plastic bags. Or maybe, make it the law for grocery stores to sell reusable bags and give a customer a discount if they bring it back the next time. Alternatively, you could introduce a compulsory charge for plastic bags, say 50 cents. Any of these will help our country return to its former perfection.
In brief, I implore you to take in my suggestions and fix what it’s possible to fix! I am very grateful to you for taking the time to read my letter: Thank you! I hope that you can make the right decision and save the T.C.I.!
