As the Senior Kindergarten was nearing the end of the story of The Gingerbread Man, we had a class discussion using the ‘Talk 4 Writing’ Innovation process.
The children talked about the characters in the story, listing their behavioural traits. They decided that the Gingerbread Man was naughty for running away and the Fox was sly and sneaky. They said that they need to go to the Principals office or be put on time out.
One child said, "Go to call the police" and another said that we should arrest the Fox. The Gingerbread Man and the Fox ended up in court the very next day.
Having previously been introduced to ‘Hot seating’, the children all took turns playing the character of their choice. The children on the carpet asked questions to the Fox or the Gingerbread Man on the ‘Hotseat’. This was a fantastic activity, which demonstrated that the children had learned how to ask and answer questions using full sentences. The children were able to use a range of language that they have been learning throughout this unit of work.
