We made skeletons in Grade 3 whilst covering Animals as Humans. The Grade 3's made skeletons, did a squeeze test and discovered that Mrs. Jimenez's muscles are huge! Clayton and Ethan were not far behind however.
Grade 3 are currently studying rocks and soils and have enjoyed looking at Pyrite, Bornite (peacock rock) and many other interesting samples.
We discovered that not all rocks are the same using the 'scratch test' - using fingernails and steel nails. Grade 3 enjoyed using hand magnifiers to see the crystals of igneous rocks and the particle sizes in metamorphic and igneous rocks.
Grade 4:
Grade 4 have studied Sound - looked at tuning forks and the evidence they give us to show vibrations, we have made string telephones... and this week are looking at pitch and volume in sound waves.
Grade 4 will be practically testing how to create deeper and higher pitched sounds using test tubes and water - a busy term indeed!
Grade 5:
We have been studying ever-so-exciting Electricity in Grade 5: constructing circuits in parallel and series, making circuits with motors and we have created boards with hidden circuits at the back with lamps and motors sticking through- some made smiley faces, Zara made a shiny Christmas tree and all had a lot of fun!
Grade 6:
With exams looming poor Grade 6 have been working very hard, but not without doing any fun. They got to pump the model heart to show the blood vessels in the body.
They also learnt about 'Ligers' and 'Tigons' and the laws of nature. They have used iPads to look into the blood and the components within the blood.
Grade 6 will also look at healthy food options and investigate food packaging to see if their snacks are really that healthy.
