‘Mathematics as an expression of the human mind reflects the active will, the contemplative reason, and the desire for aesthetic perfection. Its basic elements are logic and intuition, analysis and construction, generality and individuality.’

Exciting Maths Activities
We had a jam-packed week for Education Week TCI 2015 at the International School. See Full Education Week TCI blog.
Under The Ministry of Education's theme “Unite for Quality Education: Better Education for a Better World” we had a whole day dedicated to the wonderful of world of Maths!
Our Practical Maths Day was a fantastic day of fun and interactive maths activities. The children got stuck into all sorts of fun activities that the teachers and Mr. Chung, the Numeracy Co-ordinator for the school, had created in and around the school grounds. Chess, games, competitions, puzzles, guessing games and conundrums galore!
The core objective surrounding this day was to emphasize how dynamic Maths can be as our young learners applied many practical methods to the experience.
Mr. Chung's brainteaser!
They learned that every walk of life involved mathematical attributes; from making logical estimations, playing strategic games, baking banana bread and ice crispy bars, interpreting treasure maps and going off in search of prizes, to manipulating concrete objects in order to solve problems.
The emphasis that we live and learn maths through the most basic of scenarios was ever so blatant. The more interaction, whether it be through tactile, visual or auditory stimuli, revealed greater interest and appreciation for the subject.
Our day was made successful by the students’ active participations and the amazing support we got from our teachers and parents. Many thanks to you all!
Strategy Games!
We will definitely be looking forward to Education Week TCI and having another amazing Practical Maths Day next time around and hope that this one brought greater awareness and appreciation for the subject.
