We are very excited about our new literacy initiatives for this term. The children from Grades 1-6 have been having fun with VCOP (Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation) in the run up to their first ‘Big Writing’ session.
For example, Grade 6 have been collecting WOW words to use in their writing, Grade 2 warriors have been learning the art of ‘Kung Fu Punctuation’, the Grade 3 class are using Super Heroes to help with their writing, the SK class have been having fun with Play dough and play foam and the Pre-schoolers have been doing ‘Elastic Gymnastics'.
The hard work in Grade 5 is criminal!Mrs Danics and her Grade 5 class are learning about great connectives and ‘Power openers’! All the classes are busy incorporating this exciting approach into their English lessons and will have their first ‘Talk Homework’ and ‘Big Write’ this week. Busy Fingers is being introduced in The EYFS (PS, JK & SK) as a focused daily activity. See all the fun we have been having while we build our fine motor skills and develop our readiness for writing.
