Our Grade 6 students have been learning about the Great Explorations that have happened around the world in the past and have a greater understanding of their impact upon the world.

We first studied the Race to Space, learning why different countries wanted to explore space. We also learnt many interesting facts about the Space Race. Such as, the first animal in space, how long it took to get into space and the requirements to travel to space.

The students also researched  about other important explorations to the Polar regions, Mount Everest and the Titanic.

We linked our Art and Design & Technology projects to the theme of explorations. The students drew wonderful sketches of space.  In Art, we learnt about the artist Claude Monet. The students learnt how to paint in his style. They used Monet"s technique to create their own space paintings.
