Senior Kindergarten have had an exciting start to the new term and are thoroughly enjoying our new topic 'Earth and Space'.
We have made a space station in our classroom and the children have been reinforcing and extending their learning by working and playing in it. They have been using writing in their play as they fill in the Captain's Log Book, drawing and writing what they have seen on their journeys through space (Kady saw a shooting star, Ania saw many of the planets and Aime saw a flying saucer). They have been furthering their knowledge as they discuss where they would like to journey to on their space missions.
" I'm going to Saturn, to see the icy rings." Shaurya
"I'm going to go to Mercury but I have to take my sun cream because it'll be very hot." Christian
"Let's go to the moon" Anjali
"Shall we go to Pluto?" Wyatt
"It's going to take a long time....it's very far." Gabby
"I think it's going to be 100 days!" Wyatt
"Pllllleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaasssssssssseeeeeeeeee can we go on a field trip to outer space Miss Clark? Pleeeeeeaaaaaaaase!" Jade
We have been exploring the feeling of walking in zero gravity in our music and movement lessons (and with a little help from youtube) and the children have been continuing this in their own play. (Especially Emma and Tom.)
Some of the children have shown a particular interest in the fact that some animals have visited space (but not children- no fair!!). There was also a great deal of interest, when someone raised the subject of how the astronauts use the bathroom when there in their space stations!!!
We'll keep you posted with our next adventures!
Over and out.
