Blog
Here we are, at the end of Term 1. Sometimes I feel like school just started, and other times I feel like I’ve been with my class forever! We have a photo board in class filled with pictures I took from September. It’s funny that though it’s only been 3 months since those pictures were taken, I can tell a difference in how they look! Time goes by so fast, especially with little ones.
Since our last blog, our class themes have been - Community Helpers, Leaves & Trees, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. A favorite community helper activity was definitely our baking sensory tub. I filled a tub with flour, added measuring cups and spoons, and cupcake liners, and let them explore. They loved measuring out the flour, and emptying it into the cupcake liners. We sang “Happy Birthday” and gave birthday cupcakes to each other.
A popular activity for leaves and trees was when we took a nature walk on our playground, and looked for leaves, sticks, and acorns. They loved putting their findings into their own zip-loc bag, and when we walked back into class, it took some smooth-talking on my part for them to actually hand the zip-locs back so we could begin to make a fall wreath.
For Thanksgiving, they loved making handprint turkeys. I always do their artwork one at a time, but when I brought out the different color paint (for each finger to look like a feather) they could not contain their excitement, so we all sat at the table together. I love how in the picture Hannah already has her hand extended, ready to go!
So far, our favorite Christmas activity has been playing with tinsel, and naming the Christmas characters kept in our anchor chart.
Overall, Preschool had a fabulous start to school, and I am excited to see what Term 2 has in store for us!
