Trip to the National Museum in Providenciales
We had a wonderful opportunity to view and talk further about the history of the Turks and Caicos Islands this month.
Our trip to the National Museum in Providenciales was surely a different learning experience from the typical classroom environment. Further reading about the National Museum.
For sure, we anticipated viewing many more artefacts of historical values, but our presenter and Archeologist, Mr Donald Keith, initiated his presentation by stressing the focus of the story lines in history rather than the actual tangible evidence. He sold it quite well as we all know that every little boy and girl, as well as adults, love to listen to good stories.
See the Grade 3 blog about the National Museum and also read the Museum's 'A Day At The National Museum' Blog.
In depth study of Ship WrecksAfter a few hours of historical enlightenment, we went back to school with a common plan of constructing a visual imprint on the topic that stood out at the National Museum to us the most, “Ship Wrecks”.
The next day every Grade Five student was enthusiastic about creating 2 dimensional images of ships in their opinions from our past.
It was a successful exercise, as cognitive images were brought to the physical realm through creativity, pencils, crayons and papers.
We do hope you will enjoy looking at the concepts and designs by our students through innovations in Art. Look at the amazing ship wreck representations!
Great effort children, you were really listening to the stories.
