This week we have been learning about Diwali, the Festival of Lights that is celebrated by Hindus around the world, even in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Making the clay lamps
This year, Diwali will be celebrated on Wednesday November 11th. Diwali, or Dipawali, is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year.
The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (or deepa) that Hindus light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects us from spiritual darkness.

This festival is as important to Hindus as the Christmas holiday is to Christians.
Candles are lit for Diwali
In class, we learned about the festival and how is it celebrated. We also made dias from clay and painted them.
Later, we put candles in them and lit them so Rama and Sita could find their way into our homes.

We also coloured rangoli patterns that are used to decorate their homes.
