In the lead up to the busy festive season it is good to pause a while and remember that we all have a lot to be thankful for. Today we took that time and celebrated TCI Thanksgiving 2015 in style! Check out over 70 images in the gallery below!
Our PTA kindly provided an excellent traditional Thanksgiving turkey lunch for the entire school in order to celebrate Turks and Caicos Islands, USA and Canadian Thanksgiving.
The children prepared colourful and creative table covers with inspirational ‘thanksgiving’ quotes and the kindergarten classes made beautiful hats. The delicious menu included roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn.
The children were served lunch by parent volunteers and the students of Grade 6 helped out with the kindergarten classes.
We also gratefully received an array of delicious puddings such as sweet potato pie, key lime pie, pumpkin, chocolate gateau, apple pie, Christmas cookies, donuts, cupcakes and choc chip cookies. The lunch was enjoyed by all students and teachers and everyone went back to work feeling very full up.
Thanks to everyone who made the lunch very special.
What is the history of Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving Day can be traced back to the 1621 celebration at the Plymouth Plantation, where the religious refugees from England known popularly as the Pilgrims invited the local Native Americans to a harvest feast after a particularly successful growing season.
Three Thanksgiving Days!
Canadians mark Turkey Day, too, in fact it was the first country to do so. Canada celebrates a separate Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October.
It was first celebrated by the arctic explorer Martin Frobisher in 1578 – more than 40 years before the Pilgrim fathers arrived in the New World.
Now, we can celebrate the National Day of TCI Thanksgiving on the 27th November and enjoy another Thanksgiving lunch or dinner with our loved ones!
