Fostering creativity in young children.
Just look at our very creative primary school in Providenciales, where we get our young minds fired up! Mind you Provo is so beautiful, it is hard not to be inspired!
Creativity has no single definition but consists of a mixture of the following, attitude, process, product, skill, set of personality traits and conducive environmental conditions. At our primary school we believe that fostering creativity in young children opens up possibilities and builds self-confidence. Creativity should be viewed as an attitude rather than an aptitude. According to a recent article from the BBC about whether we should encourage creativity in schools, "It’s more about encouraging the day-to-day creative thinking that can make students and an adult workforce more productive." Read more about this at http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20140314-learn-to-be-creative In Grade 1 the children are given opportunities to enhance creativity in the following ways:- Trying out different ideas and new ways of doing things.
- Exploring the possibilities.
- Transforming and manipulating ideas and materials.
- Physically playing with objects and imagining other ways in which they can be used.
- Problem solving.
- Asking questions to gather information.
- Accepting challenges to enhance learning and thinking.
