ISTCI Conch Festival 2015
To round off an extraordinary array of activities on the Turks and Caicos Islands topic, our children from Senior Kindergarten to Grade 6 cooked and presented a feast at the annual ‘Conch Festival’. Check out the recent Conch Festival article in the TCI Sun Newspaper and read the full article in the e-paper TC Weekly News Firstly, each class planned their dish, ingredients and designed their marketing banners. They then set out their tables, prepared and cooked the ingredients before and presenting a culinary delight for the judges. Many parents came to support the classes and also to taste the delicious foods. The dishes presented by our little chefs included Conch Fritters, Conch Coconut Chowder, Conch Salad, Banana Bread, Mac 'n' Cheese, Curried Conch and Conch Souse. This year had a more Caribbean feel to the dishes rather than restricting it to purely Conch. Celebrity Chefs! We welcomed two well-known chefs to be our judges. Chef Nik and Paul Quinn praised the quality and taste of the scrumptious dishes. The children enjoyed meeting local celebrity Chef Nik. Chef Nik loves to share, which makes him an excellent ambassador for TCI cooking, and by extension, TCI culture. Chef Nik runs the restaurant Crackpot Kitchen and is the star of the first cooking show aired in the TCI on WIV channel 4, PTV channel 8 and Tropiks TV every Monday night where he hosts and cooks on the Crackpot Kitchen Cooking Show. After much tasting and deliberation they chose those 'stand out' dishes:Congratulations to the winners!
1st place - Grade 6 - Conch Curry - secret recipe!
2nd place - Grade 1 - The best Banana Bread ever
3rd place - SK for their beautiful Conch Salad
Local chef and proud parent, Paul Quinn, said "We had a great time with Chef Nik judging the Food Fest at the International School. Well done to all. There were very high standards. It was a very tough decision. Congratulations to Grade 6 for a superb Conch Curry." View all the latest School News
