October is dyslexia awareness month.
Depending on the research you read, between 1 in 5 and 1 in 10 people world wide are dyslexic. Dyslexia doesn't discriminate and is found equally amongst all races, ages, both sexes and in people of all levels of intelligence.
In recognition of this, the teaching staff at The International School of the Turks and Caicos Islands have begun a six week, online, professional development course to further familiarise themselves with this specific style of learning.
They will be learning how to recognise dyslexia, different features of dyslexia and how to help and support dyslexic children in the classroom.
Alongside this additional training for all teachers, we already have dyslexic specialist teachers and assessors on our staff, as we are committed to ensuring that ALL children achieve their true potential.
