Grade 5 have been working on figurative language:
Metaphors
Similes
Personification
Alliteration
They have used what they have learnt to write 'storm poetry'.
They have really had fun with this and their writing is very creative.
ENJOY!
THE STORM
The wind is a howling dog.
The rain in like bombs coming down.
The waves are like giant mouths eating the island.
Thunder is like a farari driving at full speed.
The storm is like a raging lion.
By Rhyan Dillon
THE STORM
The sky was getting dark like a back cat,
The ocean had a current as strong as a raging bullet,
The lightening was like forks from the sky,
The thunder was a pounding heart beat,
The wind was screaming like a new born baby,
The rain was like God’s tears,
The storm left disaster like a nuclear bomb!

THE HURRICANE
The wild wind wept like a child
The rain drops fell on my dog while I smiled
The sky was shaded black, white and blue,
The lightening was yelling out, “BOOM!” too
Thunder was screaming from a mile
And furniture went flying around, meanwhile
The ocean lighted up like a tsunami
Now I’m hungry, I’ll eat some salami.

THE STORM
The wind was screaming at me,
The rain was falling like sugar drops,
The sky was as dark as a grey wall,
The storm was working like lightening,
The thunder was lonely doing its job,
The ocean was a pitch black sea,
The grass was shimmering in the rain.
My family made me feel calm.

THE STORM
The wind is a howling dog in the rain, he got wet.
The sky shook majestically with lightening like bullets.
After the thunder there were objects flying like Rhyan surfing on the sea.

THE STORM
The wind was like a mad washing machine.
The rain was like pistol bullets crashing down on us.
The ocean was eating the land and the houses hungrily.
The noise of thunder was like God moving his furniture.
My dog, Rosie, ran like lightening to get to the safety of my house.
The thunder was a huge flash in the sky.
The sky was as dark as a kitchen oven burnt.
The storm was a powerful demon.
By Samuel French
THE STORM
The wheeling wind was whistling loudly.
The sky was twisting pitch black and the rain hit like venomous bullets.
The wind shrieked like a little girl as the lightening flickered like a light.
The thunder boomed like a bomb.
The ocean whirled like a fan.
The sea was a huge foaming tidal wave.
Houses were destroyed as though a giant ate cake.
…then it stopped.
The sun came out and it beamed at me.
That was a powerful storm!

THE STORM
The wind was whistling through the trees
The wind was like the sky breathing
The wind is God whistling
The wind passes the sea.
The rain was heaven’s gift
The rain was like a huge tap running
The rain is majestic and stunning
The rain passes through the sky swiftly.
The sky was a pitch black river
The sky was like a black hole
The sky is black magic
The sky was full of thunder.
Lightening was a squiggly line
Lightening was like an electric flashing line
Thunder went’ “BOOM!”
It was a warning of doom.
Everything flew
There was nothing to do.
