Grade 5 and the amazing Mayans

Our grade 5 class had a wonderful summer vacation. Each of us have visited exotic places, like Europe the Caribbean Alaska etc. The fifth graders are very excited about our new topic ‘The Mayans’. We have made 2D pictures of Maya temples during our cross curricular topic. Last Friday we had a big writing session about the Mayans and how they lived some people wrote a lot.

Last Friday the manager of Provo Sailing Club came in to talk to us about a sailing club every Sunday. Some of us went down to take part in free sailing taster sessions at the Yacht Club. In Mathematics we are learning about the grid method to multiply and the chunking method of division. In literacy we are learning about fables. We have used a lot of drama to present information to compare two similar fables. In P.E. we are learning rugby and this fits in with the Rugby World Cup which started last week. Mr. Canning is hoping that England will win the World Cup this year. Written by Thais, Zara, Angelina and Thandie and Jayda.
