Ancient Greeks and more for Grade 6 at the International School
The start of term has been: exciting, fun, interesting but hard work!
More about Grade 6 Curriculum.
We are learning about the Ancient Greeks and linking this into History and Geography where we have included map skills and linked this into knowledge of continents and map skills.
Where Western civilisation began? Ancient Greece is called 'the birthplace of Western civilisation'. About 2500 years ago, the Greeks created a way of life that other people admired and copied. The Romans copied Greek art and Greek gods, for example. The Ancient Greeks tried out democracy and started the Olympic Games and left new ideas in science, art and philosophy. There is much to learn!
Science is fun-filled and wild with electricity and circuits – what could be more fun?
In Literacy we have been concentrating on prologues; narrative voice, grammar related topics and written our own prologues focusing on 'David Copperfield' – a favourite of Grade 6! Charles Dickens’s novels are wonderful and we love them!Maths has been hard work – we have already covered decimals, prime numbers, factors, prime number factorization, ordering of numbers and place value soon to be moving onto measurements and worded problems related to them. Maths remains to be a favourite topic of Grade 6 but it is still challenging!!
Grade 6 have been learning about Flag protocol and are highly involved every morning with Miss Blaire in raising the flags in the appropriate fashion.
As per usual, Grade 6 have mad an amazing start to this year; we look forward to writing our next blog. Let the challenge begin!
