Grade 9
September 2017 saw the grand opening of a Grade 7 at the International School. We are creating something really unique and special, right here on our already fantastically resourced campus.
The Grade 9 curriculum ensures that each subject builds on prior understandings and skills. As life is a complex myriad of relationships and connections, students engage with these understandings and skills through units that allow students to grapple with complex ideas and look at a variety of perspectives.
A new Middle School in TCI
We are very excited to present this next stage in learning and growth at the International School of the TCI. In April 2018 we broke ground on our BRAND NEW, PURPOSE BUILT facility which will house our Middle School for Grade 7, 8 and 9 children.

We are focused on four main areas:
- 21st Century skills
- Core Curriculum
- Developing the whole individual
- Extensive school facilities to achieve excellence in academics
We have outstanding teachers who are high school and middle school trained and the building will be purpose-built to facilitate the learning of our students and set up with the application of technology in mind.
While we will continue to use the British National Curriculum as a basis for study we will adapt it to our needs and we will incorporate elements from other educational systems to ensure that children are able to transition to the Grade 10 in the school system, in the country of their choice.
We are excited about what we can offer here: a truly international education for our students, which will set them up for the future which they are destined for.
We are accepting applications of admission, please email the school for more information about Grade 7 at the International School or call (649) 946 5523.

Topic Curriculum
Here are Topic webs for the Grade 9 academic year:
When themes, subjects, or projects are combined, students begin to see meaningful connections between the subject matter. Material then serves as a vehicle for learning rather than simply pieces of information. In addition to this, repetition of material from one subject to the next is essentially eliminated.
An Integrated Curriculum
As educators, we are constantly searching for new ways to help students make sense of the multitude of life’s experiences and the bits and pieces of knowledge they gain from a traditionally departmentalized curriculum.
Students today continue to move from one discipline to the next forcing the information to be disconnected to anything that resembles real life situations. To lighten some of the fragmentation our youth experience, a more integrated curriculum is our goal.

Developing the whole student
Monthly integrated field trips help make learning fun and meaningful.
Our Grade 9 community offers countless learning scenarios to take place outside of the classroom, right in our own backyard. Supplementing reading materials with the “up-close-and-personal” allows students to have a greater understanding of the concepts covered.
Students grow personally, socially, and academically when taken out of their comfort zone and exposed to new and exciting experiences. Wherever the group chooses to explore, the week-long integrated experience will be a culmination of group fundraising and planning, as well as individual research and commitment.
Activities will be planned to enrich the curriculum and learning links will be made throughout.
21st Century
The International School has gone Google.
Our Middle School Teachers will all be trained as GOOGLE EDUCATORS.
We will use G-suite for Education which is designed specifically for productivity and collaboration and advanced technology integration skills. The tools encourage collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, and let teachers work one-on-one or with the whole class.
Google Classroom was designed with teachers and students to connect the class easily, track their progress and achieve more together.
Grade 9 Uniform
The Middle School uniform is quite different to the lower school’s uniform. Students in Grades 8 should wear a khaki bottom with a light blue, button front shirt.
Boys are required to wear long trousers, brown belt, brown shoes and a light blue button front shirt (either long sleeve or short sleeve) for every day wear. Logos will be embroidered onto the shirts.
Girls will be required to wear a khaki skort or skirt on the bottom, with a blue button front top; logo appliqued.
For active field trips, boys will be allowed to wear khaki shorts as an option, instead of the long trousers, and a blue polo shirt. For more formal field trips or travel, boys will be required to wear a red tie – but not for every day wear! On cooler days, there is the option of a red cardigan or half zip active jacket. For the girls, there are also the same options available for active and formal field trips, as well as options for cooler weather wear.
All School Uniform requirements for Grade 8 can be found at School Uniform
