Over the past few weeks, the children in Grade 1 have been learning how to structure a story using the story of Supertato.
After listening to the story, the children were able to answer key questions related to the events in the story.
They looked at key features and events that happened at the beginning, middle and the end of the story. The children were also taught how to use time connectives to let the readers know when the events in their story happened.
The first activity was for the children to create their own story maps, which they used to retell the story in their own words.
The next step was to use innovation to change a part of the story, adding a different twist to the story. The children discussed the setting, the characters and events that happened in the story.
As a group, they decided that they would change the original characters to create their own superhero, victims, and villain.
The children really had a great deal of fun playing with their story to make it personal and entertaining.
