Happy, Healthy Eating in Kindergarten
We pride ourselves at the International School on our daily encouragement of healthy eating in Kindergarten. This week in Junior Kindergarten we talked about the five nutritious food groups (fruit, vegetables, grains, dairy and protein). The children know that the key to eating well is to enjoy a variety of nutritious foods from each of the five food groups. Today, I taught them how to cook my favourite delicious and nutritious noodles with lots of vegetables. They had fun chopping the vegetables which also help them to develop their fine motor skills. They were very excited to cook the noodles and it turned out really good and they said, "This is the best healthy noodles Ms. Vina" Good job Junior Kindergarten ! You are the best chefs in ISTCI. According to Livestrong.com, "Your child's brain develops rapidly in the first few years of life. By age 3, the brain has already reached almost 90 percent of its adult size. Brain development and growth depend on nutrition and lay the foundation for learning and behaviour. A healthy, balanced diet can help your child reach his full potential for concentration, memory, focus and mental capacity."
We should avoid giving children processed, sugary foods such as boxed breakfasts cereals and snacks and set a positive example by following a nutritious daily diet.
