Provo Primary Schools Inter-school Tag Rugby Tournament
Inter-school Tag Rugby Championship
This December our children proudly represented their school in the Inter-school tag rugby championship hosted by the TCIRFU at the Meridian Field in the Grace Bay Village. We had one team representing the International School and two other teams called the 'Barbarians' formed by a mixed age group of students and ex-students too! Tom Fielding, Rugby Development Officer at TCIRFU, and visiting rugby trainer Courtney Tinkler have been providing tag rugby lessons at the rugby ground throughout this term. Just look at the action! All the teams showed great skills and sportsmanship. Most of the matches were nail-biters keeping all the crowd on their toes! Also the children have really enjoyed the experience to further learn this sport during their lessons with their PE teacher Mr. Hall. Tag rugby is a non-contact, fast-moving game that is suitable for adults or children, and for boys and girls to play together. Its safe, non-contact nature, combined with the fun and liveliness of the sport, means that tag rugby is now the RFU’s official version of the game for under-7s and under-8s. There was a great atmosphere down at the field and we would like to thank those who stepped up to referee, assist with teams, or helped out in any way. Many thanks to everyone for coming down and participating in or supporting the inter-school championships, and congratulations to the overall winners, Provo Primary School. Medals were awarded by Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Akierra Missick. A big THANK YOU to all our sponsors, players, parents, organisers and everyone who helped make the Inter-School Tag Rugby Festival a success! We look forward to seeing more school teams competing in the next Festival.Beach Rugby Tournament November 2015
Read the full match report at: Beach Rugby Tournament Many of our children from the International School also participated in a Beach Rugby Tournament held in November. The inaugural Beach Rugby Tournament was held at Rickies/Flamingo Cafe on the world famous Grace Bay Beach this Saturday, 8th of November. The event was a huge success with over 300 people playing or watching rugby in the custom made inflatable pitch. The pitch tours the Caribbean courtesy of sponsorship by DHL. With perfect weather, a beautiful beach, live commentary to explain the game and some fantastic rugby skills on display, the event was enjoyed by all who attended. The day kicked off with tag rugby for the youth grades, including both boys and girls at u8’s, u12’s, and U15 levels.
The junior players have been practising with Coach Tom Fielding every Saturday at the Meridian Field however this was the first time most had played on the beach. There were plenty of new young faces and the games were exciting and enjoyable for both the children and their parents.
The fast paced U8’s game was a nail biter with the crowd going wild when Sam French scored the very first try of the day for the KPMG Adders.
The KPMG Krunchers replied with tries to Joshua Fielding and Charlie Chapman. Standout defence from Olivia Park and Maddox Jones stopped the tries flowing and the final score was 4-3 to the KPMG Adders.
The u12’s game was equally as exciting with great defensive playing from both teams; the Hugh G O’Neill & Co Marlins pulled ahead and beat the Hugh G O’Neill & Co Pirates with a score of 5 to 3 thanks to the efforts of Dante Taylor, Manville Gardiner and Oliver French.
Later in the afternoon the u15’s took to the sand representing the BCQS Barracudas and the BCQS Bears. Their individual skills were on display and the crowd were dazzled by Ricaldo Valcin and Braden Higgs. The BCQS Barracudas won 5-2.
The entire day was a lot of fun for both players and spectators as each match was competitive and fun to watch.
We would like to thank the TCIRFU and the following for making the day a huge success:
KPMG, Meridian Trust, BCQS and Hugh G O’Neill & Co for sponsoring our youth t-shirts and Junior Rugby Coach Tom Fielding.
