Grade 6 has been busy! Literacy has involved Poetry: 'The use of Personification and Powerful Imagery'. Each child has identified these effects in other poems such as The Donkey by G J Chesterton, Two Sunflowers Move in a Yellow Room by William Blake. These are all great poems to observe and see how poets use tools to make their writing interesting. Our Grade 6 have written their own amazing poems, come and see them in the Grade 6 classroom! We may have a few poets in our midst.
Our Science Topic is Light, Shadows and The Eye. Grade 6 can label the eye and describe the parts and their functions. We have learnt how we see things and the path that light takes until it reaches the brain! We have used terms such as: opaque, straight lines, retina, optic nerve, conjunctiva and many more! We are currently using mirrors to understand coded messages and link this into laws of reflection. Get those protractors out!
Maths is currently involving Graphs, line graphs and bar charts and pie charts and focusing on Interpretation. Maths involves many concepts and Grade 6 is really trying to work hard in Maths! Pie charts, graphs and data interpretation are used in everyday life and therefore are very important to us, as is all Maths! It is all maths, maths, maths!!
In Art and D/T the Grade 6 class is creating Zendoodles, featuring patterns and shapes, relating this to Greek Culture and History. We have created cool crayon etchings and linked in light and dark geometric shapes. Art is so important and enables us to take a little bit of relaxation time during our day! We LOVE art!
