National Heritage Day
As part of the National Heritage Month celebrations, the International School of the Turks and Caicos Islands joined in and celebrated National Heritage Day! The children rotated around a series of 4 different activities:1. Learning the National Song – This Land of Ours 2. Making TCI Flags 3. Learning about our natural heritage through the planting of a native garden Many thanks to Amy Avenant and DEMA for their support in this. 4. Learning about important symbols of the Turks and Caicos and how these are relevant to our heritage.
The children had a wonderful time learning about the heritage of this beautiful country that we are fortunate enough to call our homes. We celebrated what we had learnt, at the end of the day, with an assembly where we were joined by parents. The children were all given a gift of the 'Explore The Turks and Caicos Islands' Colouring Book in remembrance of the day. We are planning an exciting curriculum focus for the whole school in term 2, based around the TURKS and CAICOS ISLANDS, so this was a great taster for the children. Social Studies topics will be divided up between the different grades in order that children are all reaching their grade appropriate learning objectives whilst developing their knowledge and understanding of the historical, geographical, biological and environmental areas of this beautiful country. Quotes from the children:“I love the TCI because it is so beautiful. My best bit about today was drawing pictures of the Turks Head Cactus.” Samuel French (age 7)
“My favourite bird in the TCI is a flamingo. I like to draw pictures of them. I had a great day today with my friends and my teachers!” Selin Kilic (age 7)
