Let's hear it for Turks and Caicos Islands Cricket
The International School proudly entered this weekend's Turks and Caicos Islands Cricket Association Inter-School Competition.
The boys from Grades 4, 5 and 6 have been working hard with Mr. De Fraine during sports lessons to improve their game. They have also had members of the Turks and Caicos Islands Cricket Association come to the school to work with the children during their sports lessons.
Despite a very humid, hot day the boys concentrated well and were able to rack up the points over the course of the morning. The teams enthralled their supporters with strong batting, great catches, sixes and golden ducks.
The International School played Grand Turk in the final. It was a very close competition with Grand Turk being the overall winners. We lost by one point!
There was an awards ceremony and trophies were awarded to the players.
Mr. De Fraine said, "This was a great effort from the boys in tough, energy draining weather. Their hard work paid off and we were very pleased to claim the silver place."
About Turks and Caicos Cricket
Cricket was on the verge of dying a slow death in the Turks and Caicos Islands but through a dedicated and committed effort of some members of the Cricket Association both in Providenciales and Grand Turk the game was revived.
What is cricket?
There is a tremendous resurgence of cricket in Providenciales as seen on weekends with unprecedented large numbers of spectators.
Cricket is the unifying force of the Caribbean, transcending all boundaries. History taught us that through cricket, West Indian players were able to assert their authority and made West Indians happy and proud.
The TCI Cricket Association's main objective is to foster, promote and sustain the Game of Cricket in the Turks and Caicos Islands at all levels. The game of cricket which we all know to be a gentleman’s game, emphasizes discipline, fair play, team work and fitness.
