There are so many ways children can develop self help skills as well as the ability to help another person.
In the Nursery School we observe and foster opportunities for children to practice these skills and qualities in natural and meaningful ways.
Whether a child is drinking water independently, offering their peer a water bottle, folding towels with a teacher or helping to rake hay together; children are eager to be helpful to themselves and their friends.
Children really love to feel that they can do things. It makes them feel important and their confidence grows. You can help your child to be independent in dressing, washing and going to the toilet. At home encourage your child to talk with you and try to answer all their questions.
By the time a child arrives at nursery school age, he/she might have begun to assert their independence by wanting to do for themselves and try on their own. This ability to function independently is necessary for success in nursery school.
