What a busy week for Education Week TCI! Check out all our Education Week TCI activities blog.
We started our World Book Day with DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read), then 'meet the authors', assembly and finally dress up time! The younger children shared books or did book related activities throughout the day.
We ended the World Book Day with a fabulous character parade - where there were children dressed up in all manner of wonderful costumes representing characters from Sleeping Beauty to Captain Underpants! See the gallery below!
Meeting Authors!
We had opportunities for children to meet with real authors to learn about the process of writing a book - both fiction and non-fiction.
One session involved a reading - the author (Irene Daly) read us the first chapter of her new book The Roaming Romans (working title). The children loved it and she has promised to come back again. The children then worked on creating their own collaborative books - TCI ABCs!
Celebrating Success Assembly
As part of Education Week TCI certain children had proven themselves worthy of 'Star of the Month' and were recognized for their great literacy skills and behaviour. We are so proud of you all!

Focus on Reading
DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read) was a special time indeed. We are blessed with beautiful school grounds so the children and teachers found some nice, shady nooks to read their books, such as under trees, in the Arawak camp and, for those needing more comfort, on the sofa!
Everyone dropped everything and read in a comfy spot for an hour. The children chose their favourite books and really were immersed in reading for the hour! Pure silence! Heaven!
